Let’s begin with something that not a lot of people are aware of. June, has the maximum number of “food” days that a month can have. Which basically translates to, every day of June, is affiliated to a food item. I’m going to be listing out a couple of my favourite food days and my recommendations where you can find these delicious items.
June 2: National Rocky Road Ice Cream Day
Chocolateria San Churro serves one of the best Rocky Road Sundaes one would come across. A perfect blend of ice cream and a heartful chocolate pastry topped with whipped cream makes it an amazing dessert.
June 4: National Cheese Day
If you want good cheese, a cheese fondue is what you need to have. The best place that one could try it is at Quattro Ristorante at Lower Parel. It’s just cheese and cheese and cheese.
June 7: National Donut Day
Its celebrated on the first Friday of June. Looking at donuts, Café Moshe’s is really nice place to try. All its outlets are generally placed in a quiet corner with a lovely ambiance.
June 10: National Iced Tea Day
Now this is a tough pick because iced tea is available at every nook and corner but if you’re in the mood for a good, authentic iced tea, I would recommend Café Mondegar at Colaba. Not only is their Lemon Iced Tea freshly brewed but they also have a functional jukebox with great retro music.
June 15: National Lobster Day
Seafood lovers have probably been to this place but if not, do try Ferry Wharf at Bandra. The lobster ghee roast there, will make your day!
June 18: National Sushi Day
Now I have tried Japanese Cuisine in the US, Europe and multiple places here too, but nothing in my honest opinion will beat Kofuku. The ambiance is on point and so is the food. The best way to judge good sushi is through the wasabi sauce it’s served with. For those who haven’t tried wasabi, it’s the most pungent thing on this planet and tastes brilliant alongside sushi, and this place gets it right. Do try the Shrimp Tempura Roll along with the salted edamame beans for an authentic Japanese experience.
June 20: National Vanilla Milkshake Day
The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is a rather underrated joint and has been overshadowed by Starbucks in Mumbai, but their Iced Vanilla Milkshake is white heaven in a mug for me.
June 22: National Chocolate Éclair Day
Once again, a very common dish that you can find in any pastry shop. But Merwans Cake Shop makes an unexpectedly simple but creamy Chocolate Éclair. They have outlets all across Mumbai, so I’m sure there’s one near you too.
June 30: National Ice Cream Soda Day
Now there is no particular restaurant for this last item and it’s rarely available at places but if you can get your hands on some of it, the Rogers Ice Cream Soda has been a classic soft drink since the early 1970s and you should definitely try it if you ever come across some.
