I have always loved you from a distance,
Admired you from the comfort of my room.
I’d always sneak a peak in, get close enough to get a whiff
Of your scent even if just for a few moments.
I have always loved you in bits and pieces,
Never full, never all-at-once.
I’d often run from you, take shelter
From the hurt you often brought along.
I have always loved what you stood for,
And everything you mean to the people around me.
I would never understand it fully, the wait, the anticipation,
The need in their lives for you– until you would reappear again.
And it would all make sense.
